Anxiety/Panic attacks

Does anyone suffering from anxiety or panic attacks?

I have for the past 4 years on and off and it's absolutely horrible. I was doing good and have been taking Lexapro for the past 6 months (Zoloft previously) but I've hit rock bottom lately.

sad

Anyone been through it?

Re: Anxiety/Panic attacks

I used to get those along time ago.  Didn't take anything for it though.  I would be in a grocery store and have to leave.  It is just do to excess stress and anxiety.  You need to almost picture something that relaxes you when you feel this way & breathe deep.  I found doing this to take the excess stress away really helps.  For me it was swimming as it relaxes the body and refreshes it.  This feeling does go away.  I haven't had one now in 10 years! big_smile

Re: Anxiety/Panic attacks

Yes! You are not alone!! I've been on Lexapro for about a week now & am hoping that it helps with my anxiety. I've had problems for about 10 years now & it's gotten really bad. Have been on & off medicine but this is my first time trying Lexapro. Doc also gave me a prescription for Ativan in case it gets too overwhelming.

I sure hope you feel better! Believe me, I can definately relate. Hang in there!!

Re: Anxiety/Panic attacks

I have had panic attacks since I was four years old! I was agoraphobic for a year when I was about 20. That was rock bottom!

The only thing that works for me is Xanax (I take the XR type). I know people try not to take it because they fear addiction but I never abused it and, in fact, take less than recommended. I have flown all over the country, taken a cruise, been in the biggest of places, and managed well. I still get anxious in certain places but I have learned not to fear the anxiety and I know I won't die or faint or any of the things I used to think.

It's really tough to overcome but you CAN overcome it. I took Lexapro for a short while but I gained weight. It did help some though. Everyone is different so you may have to try a few things before you find something that helps. And you really need to understand panic and anxiety and know how to talk and breathe yourself through an attack. I totally relate. It's awful!

Re: Anxiety/Panic attacks

I'm glad I decided to read these posts. I've been suffering from anxiety attacks more and more lately and I've finally convinced myself that I need to talk to my doctor.
I was afraid of taking any sort of medication, but after reading some of the things you ladies have said I'm a little less apprehensive if I know there are going to be positive results.
Thanks!

Re: Anxiety/Panic attacks

I am not a doctor, just sharing my personal experience as I have had depressions and anxiety for sometime. The best way to get over anxiety and depression is to take a break from your regular schedule, go out, and take good sleep. This helps in clearing the mind and try consulting a specialist who can suggest you as how you can get over your problem. Rather than going on drugs, one should look for the reason behind there problem . Keeping your self busy and changing the schedule also helps sometimes to get over stress and depression.
